Dr. Yin Zhi

Steinway Artist, Pianist

Dr. Zhi Yin is a Steinway Artist, faculty member at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and member of Pi Kappa Lambda Music Society in the United States. Born in China, Zhi began playing piano at the age of seven. She went to study in Russia in 2002, at Russian Gnessin Music School, and then entered Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where she graduated with distinctions. In 2011, Zhi went on study in the United States, at Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University. In 2018, Zhi obtained her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance from Boston University, where she also worked as the teaching assistant at the piano department. During Zhi’s growth as a musician, she was accompanied and guided by renowned pianists Naum Shtarkman, Pavel Nersessian, Boris Slutsky, Arkady Sevidov and Ying Wu. 


Zhi has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States, Europe and China. She has made appearance at numerous venues, including Small Hall and Rachmaninoff Hall of Moscow Conservatory, Chamber Hall of Moscow Philharmonic, Dean Acheson Hall of US Department of State, Russian Culture Center in Washington D.C. , National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, Shanghai Oriental Art Center, Guangzhou Xinghai Concert Hall, Hangzhou Grand Theatre and many others. In 2017, Zhi has worked with Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra and Shanxi Symphony Orchestra as a guest soloist. And she was invited to perform at the annual Ponce International Music Festival in Puerto Rico and the Shanghai Spring International Music Festival. In 2018, she played a major concert tour in China with German Kassel Chamber Orchestra Louis Spohr. In 2020-2021 season, Zhi completed a tour of twelve recitals in China commemorating the 180th birthday of Tchaikovsky, and released her first album <Tchaikovsky>. On December 31, 2021, she made her debut with China Philharmonic Orchestra at the New Year’s Gala Concert in Beijing.  Her second album <Uncharted Area> was released in 2022. And Zhi toured in twenty major Chinese cities in 2023, commemorating the 150th birthday of Rachmaninoff.


Zhi was awarded major prizes at the International Young Artist Piano Competition in Washington D.C., the Harrison Winter Concerto Competition in Baltimore, the Campillos International Piano Competition in Spain, the International Competition “XXI CENTURY ART” in Ukraine and the Balakirev International Piano Competition in Russia.
